The Pros and Cons of Different Types of Cat® Spare Parts

Replacing the damaged or worn-out parts of your Cat® heavy equipment is an essential part of regular maintenance. If you want to get the desired level of performance over a sustained period of time, then you need to use the right parts.

When it comes to sourcing Cat® parts in UAE, you have four options. You can either go for new or used Cat® spares or go for rebuilt/remanufactured parts or aftermarket parts. Each of these kinds of parts have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let us take a look at each of them so that you can make an informed choice.

 Used Caterpillar Parts

Used parts are usually sourced from another piece of equipment that was considered beyond repair. They might also come from machines that are considered to be too uneconomical to fix, or reclaimed or sold by an insurance company. However, used doesn’t necessarily mean worn-out or non-functioning. They might be as capable as new parts.

Pros

  • They are less expensive than new parts
  • They might be a good option for components that don’t wear as hard or as rapidly.

Cons

  • They might be fully functioning but they have some level of wear
  • The warranty (if any) are usually for a shorter period.
  1. Aftermarket Parts

Aftermarket parts are usually not made by the manufacturer who originally made the machine. You can source the parts from different places and hence, there is often no assurance of compatibility, quality or performance.

Pros

  • Depending on the situation, they are much easier to source than genuine new parts
  • They are less expensive than new parts
  • They don’t have the wear or tear of used parts

Cons

  • There is no consistency in the quality of the parts
  1. Rebuilt or Remanufactured Cat® Spare Parts

Rebuilt or remanufactured parts are made by taking apart faulty components and rebuilt with new components to match factory specs.

Pros

  • Remanufactured parts are built to match the same level of performance as new parts and meet the standards of durability and quality.
  • It is less expensive to replace worn parts with rebuilt parts
  • They are a sustainable option as it helps to reduce waste and consume less energy
  • In most cases, you will get the same warranty as new Cat® parts.

Cons

  • After rebuilding, some of the parts are new, whereas others are old. Every part is not replaced. So, the remanufactured parts are sometimes more worn than a brand-new product.
  • Depending on the part, the rebuild process can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. This would increase downtime.

Al-Bahar also offers a range of remanufactured (reman) parts from Caterpillar. Visit our Cat® reman spare parts page or contact our team to know more.

  1. New Caterpillar Parts

These parts are manufactured by Cat® and are guaranteed to fit and work perfectly with your Caterpillar machine. Therefore, you would not have to worry about the parts not fitting.

Pros

  • New Cat® spare parts are easy to choose, as you will only get one option. You just need to match up the part numbers. So, if you are looking to replace Cat® oil filters, air filters, plugs or hoses, then you can easily find the right one.
  • They work exactly like the part that you are replacing.
  • They usually come with warranty.
  • New parts are delivered much quicker than other options, thereby reducing downtime.

Cons

  • New parts are expensive than used or rebuilt parts.
