Your heavy equipment would need repair from time to time. Now, there are many different ways in which you can deal with such repairs. Often, you have two options – either you can repair or you can rebuild your engine, or the entire equipment. At Al-Bahar, we offer heavy equipment repairs as well as certified Cat® Engine Rebuild. In the following post, we would take a look at two of the options and help you understand which would be the right option for you.

What is Engine Repair?

Repairing an engine is quickest way to fix a specific issue with your engine. For example, if you have any issue with the belt or the fuel injection system, then you can go for repairing your engine. All Cat® machines come with a warranty that normally extends to 12 months from the date of purchase. This means that if your machines needs certain kind of repairs, within these 12 months, then you can do it free of cost. Please note, that making repairs to your engine would not extend its normal warranty period. Please contact Al-Bahar or visit our repair page to know more about our repair options.

What is Engine Rebuild?

Engine rebuild is a way of overhauling your old engine. When you compare it to engine replacement, it is less expensive but it does help in significantly restoring the performance of your engine. It involves taking apart the different components of the engine and extensively checking them for any signs of damage. If the need be, the damaged parts would also be replaced.

Getting a Cat® certified rebuild extends the warranty protection on your machine. Al-Bahar is currently offering exclusive deals for Cat® engine rebuild. To know more click here.

Which Should You Choose?

It is clear that engine rebuild is more extensive, and hence, people might think that it is better option. But that is not always the case. To determine whether you should go for repair or rebuild, you need to carefully look at the condition of the machine and consider a few other factors to choose the right option for yourself.

Repairing the Equipment

Most of the dealers offer heavy equipment repair service to their customers. This makes repairing heavy equipment an easy option. But is it the right option? Well, the answer is not simple. Repairing might be the right option in some cases, but they might not be as effective in other cases. If your machine has just one or two broken components, repair might be the right option. If you need the equipment back in service quickly, then repairing is the best option.

Now, let us take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of making repairs.

Advantages of Repairing

  • It is an affordable option.
  • You can get the equipment back in service quickly.
  • It can enhance the lifespan of a particular component.

Disadvantages of Repairing

  • It doesn’t enhance the lifespan of the entire machine

When you are considering repairing the engine or any other part of the equipment, you should keep in mind that it only affects a single component. Sometimes, you might have different components fail, all at once. In such cases, repairing might not be as affordable as you think it might be. Repairing in most cases, should be considered as a ‘stopgap’ measure when you considering rebuilding the equipment or replacing it with a new one.

Rebuilding the Equipment

Rebuilding the equipment is an excellent way to give a new lifespan to your engine, without having to invest as much as investing in a new machine. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of rebuilding machines.

Advantages of Rebuilding

  • It can extend the lifespan as much as new equipment
  • It is less expensive that buying a new machine

Disadvantages of Rebuilding Equipment

  • It takes a considerable amount of time
  • May be expensive than a repair
